Hardenize Is Joining Red Sift

by Ivan Ristić

We're very happy to share with you that we're joining Red Sift, a like-minded cybersecurity company whose main focus is on email and domain name security. Hardenize and Red Sift will combine their respective efforts to offer a suite of products designed to help organizations of all sizes secure their network and application infrastructures from the ground up. Hardenize's discovery capabilities will immediately help Red Sift's existing customers by providing better visibility. Red Sift's mature organization will help bring Hardenize's platform to the market as well as accelerate development of new capabilities.

Back in 2018, Hardenize started to find its first customers and to explore the problem domain. Our main goal then was to help our customers with adoption of modern security standards. The desire to do this came from my previous startup, SSL Labs, which became the de-facto standard for SSL/TLS and PKI analysis. With Hardenize, I wanted to go further and attempt to solve the same problem for a much wider range of technologies.

Somewhere along the way we realized that we can't secure what we don't know about. After that, we changed our approach to focus on automated discovery of internet assets. We were one of the first companies to provide comprehensive monitoring of public PKI, and our capabilities only grew from there. Today, we provide a comprehensive solution for combined discovery and deep monitoring of network infrastructure.

Throughout our life we were content with growing organically via word of mouth, which provided us with an opportunity to spend most of our time on improving our product. In 2022, two things happened. First, we slowly started to realize that the scope of the problem is much bigger and that a good solution needed to involve elements outside the scope of our own product. Second, we met Red Sift and started with them a very enjoyable and successful partnership to provide our services to their customers. It eventually became obvious that the best way forward is to become one, and here we are!

Here's what you can expect from us in the future:

  • Hardenize's development team will join Red Sift and continue to develop our platform. I am joining Red Sift's leadership team as Chief Scientist. Hardenize's and Red Sift's products are fully complementary and already integrated. This integration will be further improved over time.
  • If you're a customer, you will not experience any disruption. You will continue to use our platform tomorrow in the same way as yesterday. When you write to us, Billy and I will continue to answer and work with you to make the best of our platform.
  • With support and further investment from Red Sift, the pace of development will increase. In the future, we will be able to spend more time on the core work as well as grow our team faster.
  • Both Hardenize and Red Sift provide free services on their respective web sites today and will continue to do so. We are also aligned in this respect and expect our free offerings to improve over time, after we complete the more immediate activities related to the acquisition.

It's been a huge pleasure working on Hardenize in its first five years. I want to extend my gratitude to all of our customers and everyone else who has used our web site to improve their security. Special thanks to Mike and Billy, who have helped shape the company into what it is today.

We're very much looking forward to the next five years, now as Red Sift.
